It took us much longer to get back to New Haven than getting to Princeton – all thanks to Hurricane Irene. When we were going through Stamford the traffic was horrible and we think it was mostly because of people heading out of town before the hurricane. It was a long and gruelling trip, but getting back to the beach made it all worth it! There was no wind, which was good for Derwyn but bad for Andrew – no waves for “burfing”. There was a lot of swimming, shell collecting and torturing of hermit crabs. Andrew found their hide-out and enjoyed trying to pull them out of their shells – with only a pinch or two to show for it. The sun set far too quickly and then it was off to supper and exploring North Haven in the dark :/ The island in the picture is called Charles Island and is rumoured to be a site of Captain Kidd’s treasure in 1699 – we saw no evidence of pirates, but kept our eyes peeled just the same…
