Laurenne has the best French teacher known to teaching. Mr. H. is fun, passionate about French and Quebec and is infectious. When Laurenne started French in Toronto we realized how lacking the French program was in BC and she struggled through grade 5. We met Mr. H at the grade 5 parent open house at the middle school last spring and prayed REALLY hard that she would get him for French this year (even though I’m pretty sure he was not teaching gr. 6 gifted last year). Well, don’t let anyone tell you that prayer doesn’t work… Laurenne got Mr. H and she went from despising French to LOVING it and getting A’s!  Mr. H planned a Carnival festival in February that made you feel like you were in Quebec City and in June took all  of the grade 6’s to Le Papillon – a high end French restaurant near downtown Toronto. After lunch, they went to St. Lawrence market (similar to the markets in Paris) and to the Distillery District (reminiscent of Champs Elysee). Needless to say, the kids AND the parent helpers had an amazing day – we will be sad to not have Mr. H as Laurenne’s French teacher next year.

At the restaurant, Laurenne had the carrot soup and an apple crepe – yum was the verdict and the french pudding was simply amazing.
